Award to be bestowed at special ACTRA 75-year anniversary celebration in Newfoundland

St. John’s, NL (July 17, 2018) – Robert Joy will be honoured on July 23rd with the 2018 ACTRA Newfoundland/Labrador Award of Excellence at a special event hosted by ACTRA Newfoundland/Labrador for Canadian performers and industry guests in celebration of ACTRA’s 75-year anniversary.

“Robert Joy is a gifted and accomplished actor. Although his success is international, he often returns home to share the stage and screen with fellow Newfoundlanders,” says ACTRA Newfoundland President Amy House. “His roles in hit TV shows, feature films and theatrical productions are loved by audiences everywhere and on all platforms. Here at home, Robert is not only known for his tremendous talent, but also for his generosity as an actor and his mentorship of emerging artists.”

Robert Joy’s numerous film roles include: Desperately Seeking Susan and Land of the Dead and Fallen; while TV lovers know him for his eight seasons as Sid Hammerback, the medical examiner on CSI:NY, he is also well known for his roles on The Blacklist, Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, Masters of Sex and Everybody Loves Raymond. Robert’s Broadway performances include Side Show, The Nerd, Hay Fever, Shimada, Abe Lincoln in Illinois and he recently played ‘Polonius’ in the Shakespeare Theatre Company’s production of Hamlet in Washington, DC.

The ACTRA 75th anniversary and presentation of the 2018 ACTRA Newfoundland Award of Excellence to Robert Joy will take place at the LSPU Hall in St. John’s on Monday, July 23 from 7- 9 p.m.
