President's Message

As I look back on the years I’ve had the privilege of being president of this extraordinary branch, it amazes me to see how the industry in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to not only thrive but to truly outdo itself. Year after year we seem to welcome more productions than the year before. TV series, feature films and shorts, and commercials – both on screen and on radio – have long offered opportunities for our membership. Adding to those we’re seeing more Movies of the Week, Web series, BellFibe Series, etc.

The industry in NL has kept pace with how the media is changing and growing in the world and our membership is growing right along with it and embracing every opportunity that is presented. Our province has quickly established itself as a strong centre for production, nationally and internationally, and it boasts some of the most amazing artists in the country.

What's Shooting in Newfoundland

From scenic fishing villages to majestic mountains, Newfoundland and Labrador also offer a highly developed film infrastructure including post-production facilities, a professional and experienced cast and crew base, and the largest sound stage in Atlantic Canada.

CHROMA: issue 01

Our Union. Our Stories
Introducing the evolution of the ACTRA National magazine, created for and by performers: CHROMA. A new name, invoking the deep colour and depth of the stories we have to tell to each other and the world, and a new style that speaks to the creative forces that make up ACTRA’s 30,000+ members.

With articles crafted to entertain, inform and resonate, CHROMA is a must-read for OUR union and the home of OUR stories. In the inaugural issue, we discover how Manitoba became the industry’s comeback story; dive into the threats of disinformation to our union and society; catch up with ACTRA Visionary Award recipient Sharon Bajer; and feel the beat of our recording artists’ division, ACTRA PRS RACS.
